One night I was speed-flipping through the channels as only a annoying male can do. I was already four stations ahead when something I had just heard finally registered... I had heard the voice of an angel. I quickly flipped back to find that voice being profiled on ABC Nightline. When I heard Eva Cassidy sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow, I fell in love. And when I heard how and when she sang It’s A Wonderful World, she broke my heart. So with that said, here’s the link to that story. If you love music, appreciate pure talent and true integrity, or just need a cathartic cry... I hope you find time to get to know her and the beautiful gifts she gave us. I recently went looking for a parking spot in a very full lot. I pulled up to one space and it was too small. I thought another might work, but someone beat me to it. I started to think I’d never find one. But then the perfect spot opened up. It was then that I realized how similar that process was to finding true love. You don’t need a whole parking lot, you just need one spot. And all the ones that wouldn’t work for any reason? They were there to make you appreciate the perfect one that was reserved for you all along. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post September 17, 2014
There are times in life where you must fight to stand your ground. And there are times where you can simply choose not to be pulled into someone else's drama, trauma, perception, opinion, vendetta or craziness. I hope this post serves as a reminder to those going through stormy situations with others that there is usually a choice. And if you refuse to pick up the rope - or simply just decide to let go of it - your life can be more peaceful, uncomplicated, fulfilling and content. Someone you know may be going though a very hard time right now. They’ve stopped going out, reduced their communication to a minimum, or just don’t seem quite like themselves. You may be tempted to give them their space, not interfere in their business, or be patient until the dark clouds have passed. However, you can still respect their privacy - while doing something little that could make a big difference. It might be as simple as visiting them or inviting them out someplace fun. It could be calling them just to listen or to remind them that they are loved. It may be asking them if they need help with something or prayer for anything. And the coolest thing is this: Even if they say no, at least they know – and you know – that you cared enough to ask. And sometimes, that’s all it takes to be the light at the end of someone’s tunnel. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post September 25, 2013
"You'll Never Walk Alone" is a 1945 show tune by Rodgers and Hammerstein. But it has a message of hope so timeless that it has been covered by Alicia Keys, Melanie C (Spice Girls), Jordin Sparks, Josh Groban, Judy Garland (my Mom’s fav) and the Righteous Brothers, BJ Thomas and Tom Jones (my favs). If you have never heard this inspiring song before, or it is a song that you need to hear again today, check out this clip that went viral. Even if you aren’t into British football, I bet this 50 year old version of the song will lift you up and make your eyes leak just a little. And as always, if you know someone who needs positive encouragement, please feel free to share this with them. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post August 23, 2017
Note that this post from my On The Road Again trip is sheer...monkey business. I'm including here as a little comic relief, and as a reminder to not always take ourselves, or our pursuit of big hairy elusive goals, too seriously. You can tell all the scientists to call off the search for Sasquatch. I found the big guy coming out of a field in Iowa. And I hope I don't put my..."big foot"...in my mouth when I say this, but if were in better shape I could have beat him in a pose down. It would be billed as...are ya ready?... The Abominable Snowman vs. The Abdominal Showman. Yeah, I know. It's corny, but hey, so is background of the picture. :-) And for all those people who can't find the mystical yeti? Well, these (slightly modified) Bachman-Turner Overdrive lyrics below to their "monster" hit are just for you. You ain't seen nothin' yeti B-b-b-baby, you just ain't seen n-n-nothin' yeti Here's something that you never gonna forget B-b-b-baby, you just ain't seen n-n-nothin' yeti Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post September 28, 2014
Like a lot of people, I grew up with an image of God always frowning down on me when I was bad and just waiting for me to screw up when I wasn't. But the more I have learned about the concept of grace, the more I realize that He's not eternally ticked off. He simply wants more for and from me, just like a loving parent, a great coach or a wise mentor would. This paradigm shift in thinking has freed me from having to carry guilt around - and watching the sky for lightning bolts. :-) So if you are struggling with always trying to be perfect to please God, you can set that burden down. And if you need help with that, get into a church, associate with friends, read books and listen to resources that are all about grace, compassion, forgiveness, love, clean slates and fresh starts. You'll find that you - and He - are much happier. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post September 5, 2013
Imagine your subconscious mind as your personal servant. One who never sleeps, believes anything is possible and will do whatever you ask. If you choose to think ,"I can't sleep." or "I can't diet." or "I can't win.", it sees those thoughts as commands to follow. If you choose to think, "I am blessed." or "I will eat healthy." or "The rest of my life will be the best of my life.", it will follow those commands as well. So the only question is, do you want your subconscious mind to serve your best interests or worst fears? I hope you choose to tell your personal servant to make all your dreams come true. Because you really, really deserve it. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post October 12, 2014
I heard this quote today at church and it really helped me put some things in perspective. It is my hope that it helps others who are struggling with impossible expectations of perfection they have set for themselves or others have set for them. After all, the best we can do is the best we can do. And if we are happy with that, then we are happy with ourselves. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Original Facebook post January 18, 2015 ·
Soulful Sunday: When you are going through a extremely tough part of life, the very LAST way you think of it is as a blessing. But the truth is that once you come out it, you are gifted with a compassion, grace, empathy and understanding that only someone who has survived it can possess. So if you are suffering right now, please be encouraged that "this too shall pass". And if you have gone through the pain and have become stronger for it, please "don't waste your sorrow. The struggle you came out of will bless and help somebody who right now needs the same comfort and hope." Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories |
