Tillamook is the name of a cheese factory, a city and a county on the Oregon Coast. Since I've already written about the beauty of the great northwest, I want to pun-tificate on how udderly cool the Tillamook Creamery is. First off, the place is massive - a veritable cow palace, if you will. One article describes it as "The New Tillamook Creamery Is a Dairy Lover’s Dream Come True...with two floors and 42,000 square feet of ice cream, grilled cheese, movies, interactive milking exhibits..." And the reason the big wheels (of cheese) spent so much cheddar to make it that size was "to accommodate the creamery’s 1.3 million annual visitors." Secondly, it is entertaining, educational and free. I know what you are thinking..."No whey!" To which I say, "Yes, whey!" You can learn how to milk a fake cow (more cowbell!) and feed a fake calf (because the world is divided into calves and calves nots). And there's even a place where you can sample the different varieties for free carved up by staff who...wait for it...stand there and cut the cheese all day long. (I'll pause until you stop snickering.) And one last thing that just o-curd to me. The moo-vers and (milk) shakers who designed the place even put in a food court where you can buy ice cream, yogurt, coffee, etc. too. So at the risk of being too bullish and sounding like a real muenster, you must put Tillamook on your "to visit" list. Because you'll feel like a big cheese... And I guarantee you'll have a real gouda time. Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Comments are closed.
