Honoring Our American Heroes.
The following posts honor the past and present military and first responders who put their lives on the line to serve and protect us. I know I speak for many Americans when I say, we humbly and gratefully thank you for your service.

When I heard that the Great Clips on Carefree and Cave Creek (AZ) was giving away free hair cuts to all active and retired military on Veterans Day, I volunteered to photograph them. In this post you will see some of those brave men who were willing to sacrifice everything to serve and protect our country. And while I don't know any of them personally, I feel deeply indebted to each on of them for their service. Les Maness
PS. If you happen to know any of these men or those in this related post http://tinyurl.com/y3hwm84b, please tag them or message me so I can get them their photos. Thank you.

I have a special place in my heart for all those who have served or are serving in our armed forces. I was able to gather a few photos I took of some of my friends who are veterans for this collage. I hope that all of you, and the many other friends I know who have served or are serving our country, know how deeply I appreciate the sacrifice you and your loved ones have made to protect us. God bless you all.

We Will Never Forget.

As I was leaving Winslow, AZ, I saw the 9-11 Remembrance Garden.
I think the words on the memorial plaque there describe what most Americans feel.
"These two steel beams from the World Trade Center, entrusted to the citizens of Winslow by the City of New York, along with this flag that was flown at the Pentagon, stand as the centerpiece of our Remembrance Garden. The words "United We Stand" remind the world that we will not fear terrorism. We hereby dedicate this Garden to Northern Arizona's promise that 'WE WILL NEVER FORGET'"

There is a powerful Veterans Memorial in Anthem, AZ and a soul stirring Veterans Memorial in Fountain Hills, AZ. While they are miles apart in both distance and design, they both serve as a reminder to remember those who have sacrificed to protect us.
Some of them gave their lives in battle.
Some of them are now on the battle lines.
And some of them are battling mental and physical conditions resulting from their service.
So we owe our compassion, support, kindness, respect, encouragement, thoughts and prayers to those who are living, and our eternal gratitude to those who are no longer with us.
Because in doing so, we send this very important message to them and their loved ones...
We remember.

Honoring Our Female Firefighters.

When I shot photos for a fitness article on Female Firefighters years ago I had no idea that two of the these brave women would go on to make history. Kara Kalkbrenner (top) became first female Fire Chief of Phoenix, AZ and Mary Cameli (right) became first woman Fire Chief in Mesa, AZ. (links below) So congratulations to them and a heartfelt thank you to Debbie Wells (left), Kim Perea (center) and all of the emergency responders who risk their lives to save ours.

So many people came out to honor our Veterans yesterday at the Memorial ceremony in Anthem, Arizona. It was a joyous, but reverent occasion to remember all those who served to keep our nation free and to show gratitude to those loved ones who lost precious ones in that service.
