Even though I went to Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, MI with Peggy (Kwiatkowski) Buckley and I dated two of her college roommates when we were all at Eastern Michigan University together, I didn't get to really know Peggy until her brother and fellow RHS grad, David Kwiatkowski moved to Scottsdale, AZ a few years ago. After just a couple of visits with her, I was really looking forward to visiting her and her husband, Mark Buckley - another fellow EMU alumni - in Williamsburg, VA. Peggy took me to nearby Historic Jamestowne (as in Pocahontas) the first English settlement. Afterwards we went to Colonial Williamsburg and had a terrific lunch at the DoG Street Pub (that's DoG as in Duke of Gloucester and not DOG as in Who Let The Dogs Out?). (See photos here.) And at night we had a wonderful dinner with the family - Peggy's family, not Pocahontas's or the Duke's. :-) Now as for the significance of this photo with the famous Al Pacino movie caption above, "say hello to my little friend" actually refers to two things. The first is the obvious one where the long, fit and leggy Peggy is the pretty face in the Park Ranger cutout. The second is my newest little friend - the Senior National Parks Pass - that Peggy told me I could get right there at Williamsburg. It gives anyone 62 or over a lifetime pass to the National Parks and a bunch of other perks. So just in case you fellow road trip warriors don't have your card yet, here's a reminder to get one before you hit the road.
