When I announced my 5 month tour of the continental US on Facebook, Eileen Mankin was one of the very first to invite me to visit her in her great town of Wilmington, NC. This was despite the fact that we'd never met or even spoken on the phone. However, since we had both taken Jodi Low's Personal Development classes at UandImproved and I had become friends in a very comical way (link here) with Eileen's daughter, Amy Shelton, I figured what the heck. And now I am so glad I accepted her warm hospitality! I arrived at her home late afternoon in the pouring rain. After talking about life, her adventures as a traveling nurse and her volunteer work in the community, we went out for a driving tour of quaint Wilmington. The rain let up just as we pulled up to the incredible four story High Tide Lounge, where perfect strangers - who are now of course Facebook friends - Anthony and Shannon Zarb - were kind enough to shoot our photo. Afterwards we went to the top floor balcony to see the late sun working it's magic on the pier and ocean. It was a terrific - but wayyy to short - visit, but I am so glad she was kind enough to make it all possible.
Update 2017: Eileen has moved to Arizona not far from me. Yayyyy!! Cover Contents Books Home Hire Stories Comments are closed.
