I was walking through the desert yesterday when I came upon this old cactus. At first all I noticed was that it was bent and broken. Then I looked deeper and saw something greater. Despite everything that has come against it and left its battered toll, it was still standing. It was at that point that I felt an overwhelming compassion for all those who care for the depressed and downtrodden, the afflicted and addicted, the used and abused, the sick and dying. I know there are times where you must feel weary, inadequate, ordinary, or that what you are doing doesn’t really matter. But in the eyes of those you care for – and the One who made them – you are a miracle. Because despite everything that has come against them - and you - you are still standing by them. May God bless you for all you do and all you are. And may He continue to give you the strength, courage and support you need to answer your call in extraordinary ways. These words are dedicated to my incredible sisters who have always stood for others. If you have someone in your life who is a care giver and needs encouragement, support or recognition, please feel free to share this post with them.
