The 8,000 pound, 24-foot-long bronze sculpture near Detroit’s Hart Plaza is a monument to heavyweight world champion, Joe Louis. Known as The Fist, it is said to represent the power of his punch both inside and outside the ring because of his efforts to fight racism. Since Joe Louis "won 25 consecutive title defenses - a record for all weight classes - and had the longest single reign as champion of any boxer in history", my guess it that his unlucky ring opponents saw the real life version of this just before their lights went out. :-)
