Pure Michigan is an advertising campaign that launched in 2008 featuring the voice of comedian, actor and Western Michigan University alumni, Tim Allen. The campaign's commercials promoting the state were so successful that they spawned some pretty clever parodies. And while the videos highlighted some of the tremendous beauty of the "mitten state", what they couldn't capture was without question the best thing about Michigan... The people. And that's what keeps me coming back year after year. I am tremendously blessed to say that I get to visit with my extraordinary sisters, lifelong neighbors, grade school buddies, high school classmates, college roommates and brand new friends I've met along the way. They are loyal, kind, funny, resilient, diverse, interesting and industrious. They graciously put me up and put up with me. And on more than one occasion, some will warm my heart by asking me, "When are you moving back home?". So it's little wonder why I keep coming back for more. If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting the good folks of Michigan or experiencing some of the natural splendor, world class entertainment or incredible cuisine, it's time you put the Great Lakes State on your map. And if you grew up here but haven't returned in a while, the good news is you can go home again. As I head out on my next adventure, I'll leave you with this final bit of encouragement. It's my own personal take on the great campaign slogan. One that I think sums it all up... Pure Michigan. Come for the beauty. Come back for the people.
