Clarkston, MI is one of my favorite towns in Michigan. And thanks to Judy Facione, Steve Facione and Debbie Sammons doing a restaurant crawl with me, I found even more things to love about Clarkston and the surrounding area on this trip. The best way to describe L.A. Cafe is "far out, man.". The coffee shop and eatery is decked out in retro hippy style with the iconic James Dean and Marilyn Monroe designating the Men's and Ladies' room. And there are lots of trippy posters (or in my case, "road trippy"), signs, goods and art work everywhere. The Hilltop Brewery is a spacious place with good suds and a wall dedicated to some of Michigan's greatest musical artists. Speaking of Michigan rock stars, The Union (a former church) have been rumored to see the dining likes of Kid Rock and Bob Seger. The Woodshop, The Fed (a former bank) and Honcho Latin Street Food & Coffee (a former gas station) are just a few more incredibly charming places. (See videos of Kid Rock and Guy Fieri ejoying a few of them here.) But my favorite place of all is The Clarkston Conservatory Of Music because...well because my ol' college roommate James Wilhelmsen runs the place so I have to say it's the best or he'll make up stories about me being some long haired, muscle bound, rock music lovin' hippy back in the day. Okay, so that part is probably true, but don't believe anything else he tells ya. :-)
