One of the biggest highlights of my massive road trip this year - and virtually every other year - was to spend time with my family and friends in Michigan. I got to hang out with "kids" I've known since grade school, high school and college, "kids" that are growing up quickly, and "kids" I have watched grow into amazing adults. Since I have posted photos of many of those good folks already, I'll just talk about those pictured here.
I got to meet up with two of my best buddies from Eastern Michigan University, Steve Facione (AKA Fac) and Mark Langowski (AKA Ski), who I thank for helping me expand my love of music (and frisbee) back in the day. I was privileged to have dinner several times with the ever cordial hostess with the mostess, Carmen Stange, and her husband/my good buddy since 4th Grade at Trinity Lutheran School in Utica, Michigan, Dennis Stange. I got to briefly see the lovely Summer Stone, who I met when she was practically a baby and has since blossomed into a terrific woman. And I got to hang out with my brawny nephew - who now has bigger arms than his uncle...grrrrrrr :-), Mike Nichols, and his awesome sister - who is now grown into a beautiful young lady, Mikayla Nichols. There's a line from an old movie song (by my dear Mom's favorite singer) that goes, "I wish again I was in Michigan", and it certainly applies to me. I have been blessed beyond measure by the great people in my home state. It is what keeps me coming back for more. And it is what keeps me continually grateful for all those who welcome me back home.
