 I don't know what is more astounding about Sand Dunes Recreation, its absolutely remote location or the fact that it exists at all. This luxurious pool is so far from anything, my GPS kept telling me "fuggedaboutit". As for it's unlikely origins, well they were drilling for oil in the early 1930's when they struck hot water instead. The water was perfect for a heating a huge pool. And as more and more people drove miles for a swim, well some wanted food and lodging - hence the introduction of onsite restaurants and accommodations.
