Coming from Arizona where we have very few bugs (the wimps can't take the heat), I forgot all about the mosquitoes being the state bird in Michigan. So imagine my surprise when seeing this Taser meets Tennis Racquet weapon used against them. One mighty swing from this baby sends them stir fried to the promise land. So yeah Mr. Mosquito, that's what's zappenin'. :-)
Contents Books Home Hire Stories I have heard about Frankenmuth, Michigan all my life, but never once been there. So I made the Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland my first stop upon arriving. From a very humble start in 1945, it has grown to become the World’s Largest Christmas Store. It has over "300 decorated Christmas trees, 100,000 individual lights, 6,000 styles of ornaments, 500 styles of nativity scenes, and 150 styles of nutcrackers, all spread out over the length of 1.5 football fields". And as surreal as it was to experience all this Christmas cheer in July, the visual spectacle made it the most wonderful time of the year.
Contents Books Home Hire Stories Frankenmuth, Michigan is known for two things: A giant Christmas store and chicken dinners. And perhaps the most famous of the latter can be found at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant. The magnificent German themed restaurant has served millions of dinners and the famed Bavarian Inn Glockenspiel Tower has a 35-bell carillon, a figurine movement and an illuminated clock. The sound of the Glockenspiel originates from the 50-foot bell tower and can be heard for miles. So it takes "ringing the dinner bell" to a whole new level.

Contents Books Home Hire Stories Presque Isle (pronounced "Presk-eel") Township boasts gorgeous sunsets like these and hosts lots of great people who come "up north" to have fun. But hey, enough talk. I promised you “Les(s) Is More” on page 01, so I'll shut up now and just let you enjoy that spectacular view.
Contents Books Home Hire Stories Lighthouses like Old Presque Isle Lighthouse are a really big deal in Michigan. Maybe it's because Michigan has more lighthouses (124) than any other state. See map here. Perhaps it's because some were built in 1825 and are still operational. And maybe it's because they are all different in design. But whatever the reason, we need to toast their diverse architecture and colorful history - preferably with a "light" beer. :-)
Contents Books Home Hire Stories Grammy winning pop group, TLC sang, "Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls", but don't listen to them. Listen to me when I tell you that Ocqueoc Falls (pronounced "Aak-we-ok") is definitely worth chasing. First, its the largest waterfall in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. And second, it's the only place in lower Michigan where you can actually swim in a waterfall. Now how cool is that?
Contents Books Home Hire Stories Cheboygan (pronounced "sha-boy-gan") is located at the top of Michigan's Lower Peninsula (AKA the tip of the Mitten). Contents Books Home Hire Stories Folksinger Arlo Guthrie once sang the words, "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. Except Alice." And while Alice's Restaurant in Cheboygan, MI isn't related to the song, the fact remains that they have a big menu, but no actual Alice. That's because the original owner is no longer there, but the good food and good vibes still remain. Oh, and in case you are wondering, since I could get anything I wanted...I got the breakfast special.
